Elon Musk is back in the headlines with reports that the majority of his (now X) Twitter followers are inactive, indicating they may be bots. Culture Crave revealed in a recent Twitter post that 42% of Elon Musk’s 153 million Twitter followers have no followers and more than 62.5 million of Elon Musk’s followers have posted zero tweets.
Twitter users agree with the bot theory in response to this news. However, some have speculated that it could also be related to how Twitter forces users to follow multiple accounts when signing up. “… when you first create an account it forces you to follow people and Elon Musk was one of those people who forced you to follow when you created a new account after he bought it,” explained one user.
If the bot theory is true, it appears to contradict Musk’s claims about introducing a new policy to fight bot attacks on social media sites. Early last month, Musk announced a decision to limit the number of tweets users are allowed to view. This, according to him, is to combat spam accounts and bots.
Since Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, a slew of changes have been introduced, from implementing paid blue ticks to changing Twitter’s name and logo. Recently, Musk revealed his plans to remove the block feature. The tech entrepreneur says the blocking feature doesn’t make sense and users can still mute accounts. It is unclear whether he will go ahead with this plan as both Apple and Google PlayStore require a flagship app to enable account blocking to ensure user safety.
Meanwhile, Musk’s favorite crypto DOGE appears to be dipped in red. Standing at $0.06322 at press time, DOGE has lost a massive 15.67% over the past week. With the underperformance, the future price action of DOGE is waiting to be seen.
