Former Attorney General Florin “Pilo” Hilbay, current Dean of Silliman Law School, is about to launch a book on Bitcoin Monetary Network on March 9 with Silliman University. In incorporating digital currency into their curriculum, Hilbay stated that, “Silliman is now ahead of Harvard, Yale, & Stanford in this field.”
Silliman University, located in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, founded in 1901, is one of the top universities in the Philippines. The former attorney general will become Dean of Silliman Law School in 2022.
Silliman University Bitcoin Book Launch
“After the book launch on March 9, I will be holding weekly lectures at Silliman to introduce the 21st century monetary network to society.”
“If you look for analogies, it’s like telling the world that Ptolemy was cool, but Copernicus was awesome; or Newton’s absolute space and time is fun, but Einstein’s relative space and time is even more fun. The best thing is that it will help everyone benefit with cheaper and convenient transactions. If you are interested in freedom and rights, you better start looking into this space.” he had stated.
In a tweet, Hilbay also highlighted the recently launched Nostr protocol. It is a decentralized network based on cryptographic keypairs and it is not peer-to-peer.
“I talk about this development in my forthcoming book, and spend the penultimate chapter on it. The next few years will be around 1) decentralization of the internet as a new communication protocol & 2) decentralization of the protocol for exchanging value through bitcoins,” he noted.

He noted that with the technology brought by the Bitcoin Network, users will be able to easily send and receive money without third parties, “such as sending emails or posting comments. There is no government, no company in the middle.”
“When the internet was developed, engineers couldn’t find real currency because the technology didn’t exist. People thought it was impossible. Corporations take advantage of this and use our ATTENTION/DATA as currency. The result is the surveillance of capitalism: FB, TikTok, Twitter, Google, etc.”
“This all changed in 2009, when Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin. Today, the internet now has a native currency that doesn’t turn people into products or batteries. There are 2 things needed to build civilization: language + monetary system. They are changing now as we speak,” Hilbay emphasized.
