Interactive, virtual events platform Notable Live has partnered with ecommerce giant eBay to leverage NFTs for fan experiences with their favorite sports players, leagues and teams, among other initiatives.
The partnership will combine the eBay collectibles marketplace with the immersive experiences facilitated by Notable Live, and provide a platform for sports fans to connect with players.
eBay’s venture capital arm, eBay Ventures, previously led Notable Live’s Series A round, the company said in a statement. The two businesses are currently executing a multi-year contract under which Notable Live will bring limited edition NFTs and player merchandise to eBay.
The online marketplace’s latest partnership with Notable Live marks the next step in the digital collections space.
“Our partnership [focus] in providing transformational solutions that give fans real access. This solution is built on authentic offerings that embed memories of memorabilia and hands-on experiences,” said Mike Antonucci, co-founder and CEO of Notable Live, in a statement.
The tech startup is the brainchild of Antonucci and NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. Launched in 2018, Notable Live originally started as a mobile app giving fans access to memorable experiences with players.
“Fans and collectors turn to eBay to celebrate their favorite players and teams, knowing they can find authentic and unique memorabilia that connects them to the history and future of the sport,” Dawn Block, vice president of collectibles at eBay, said.
“Our partnership with Notable Live further enhances the market leading experience we have built for our community of sports fans, collectors and investors, enabling them to engage with living legends in new and meaningful ways.”
It is not yet clear which NFT Blockchain Notable Live will be issued. Blockwork has reached out to both companies for comment.
Still, eBay is slowly moving into the NFT space. It acquired UK-based KnownOrigin’s NFT marketplace for an undisclosed amount in June last year and launched its “Genesis” NFT collection despite waning market interest.
Unlike NFTs sold on crypto-native marketplaces like OpenSea, eBay’s NFT sales are not recorded on-chain. Purchases require fiat currency — via PayPal or credit card — and digital assets are sent to the buyer via a redemption link once the purchase is made.
