The SmartLedger team has kicked off 2023 with a variety of media appearances. Bryan Daugherty, Greg Ward, and the rest of the team have appeared on several podcasts this year.
On January 17, Dr. Eva Porras, Managing Director of SmartLedger, appears on the DXB Blockchain podcast. View via this link or read the written summary below.
Introducing Dr. Eva Porras
Blockchain DXB host George asked Dr. Porras to introduce himself and tell us about his recent trip to Dubai.
Dr. Porras explained that he often travels to Dubai because Dubai is such an exciting place to visit at the moment. He introduces himself as a well-traveled person with interests ranging from literature to photography, eventually earning a PhD in Finance in the United States. He is passionate about financial bubbles, something that comes in handy when dealing with the digital currency industry in its current form.
What is SmartLedger, and why use BSV?
Porras is the MD of SmartLedger. George asked him to tell the audience about it and the core problem it was trying to solve.
“SmartLedger is a company with a philosophy—using blockchain technology to solve business problems,” said Dr. Porras. While it is first and foremost a distribution channel, it has also started creating its own solutions, such as TicketMint and various apps. The SmartLedger team recently demonstrated some of these solutions for CoinGeek.
Which blockchain does SmartLedger use? Bitcoin SV—the original Bitcoin protocol. George noted that most people in the ‘crypto’ space were critics of BSV and asked what advantages it offered. Dr. Porras says that the BSV protocol is set up, and that’s its main advantage. It is fast, scalable and stable, making it stand out from the competition.
“The survival of the industry depends on providing this technology,” he said, detailing how Satoshi Nakamoto made micropayments possible, and that’s the main point of this technology.
Why did companies choose to move to Dubai and enter the Middle East? What happened in that decision? SmartLedger is there for the BSV Global Blockchain Convention in May 2022. Porras stayed longer and had a lot of different meetings, and that’s when the company decided to move on and start the process right away.
How does SmartLedger plan to face the competition in Dubai? Tailor-made solutions that solve real problems rather than generic packages are key.
Educating customers and addressing challenges in the industry
Dr. Porras says that at this stage, prospects should listen carefully and educate themselves. “Don’t go with the flow,” he says, highlighting how hard it can be to back out when you choose the wrong technology.
SmartLedger really wants companies to choose the best technology for them, and it’s a priority to educate and help customers decide on the best solution.
George noted that 2022 was a challenging year for the industry and asked how SmartLedger has overcome or plans to overcome its hurdles. Porras said that this year has been both a blessing and a curse, but speculative token prices have not affected the company as it does not buy, sell or trade digital currencies.
What should we expect in the coming years? Dr. Porras is hesitant to give advice because “advice depends on your perspective,” but generally, he says to look at what people do rather than what they say and look back and see what has happened since 2000. He urges people to be careful and do what is right for their organization and their country.
Will digital currency replace fiat currency?
Porras doesn’t think digital currency will completely replace fiat. Instead, he thought they would complement each other. Bitcoin was invented because fiat currency cannot make nano payments.
However, he believes the world will change a lot because of this technology. Financial services, banking, and the processes they depend on are all about to undergo some sort of revolution thanks to blockchain technology.
Key takeaway from this podcast
- SmartLedger is a blockchain distribution platform that also builds its own applications and solutions. The philosophy is to use blockchain technology to solve business problems.

- The company recently relocated to Dubai and plans to work in the wider Middle East. He saw a huge amount of potential in this area.
- Dr. Eva Porras, Managing Director at SmartLedger, thinks education and understanding of the true purpose of blockchain is essential at this stage. He advises potential clients to compare different blockchain protocols and understand what exactly the technology is.
- Porras doesn’t think a digital currency like Bitcoin will replace fiat currency. He thought they would complement each other, but the BSV blockchain would create a revolution of sorts as the processes that the financial industry relies on and use are overhauled.
