Somewhere, in the back of your mind, while using Bitcoin you must be wondering who is Satoshi Nakamoto? Someone so far-sighted that he developed a financial system that would run parallel to Taradfi, sometimes challenging its status quo, deserves recognition. But the past has been unfavorable to those challenging the financial system.
In the US, anonymous identities are jailed for running a parallel financial system that facilitates exchanges in their environment. This may have been the trigger that compelled Satoshi Nakamoto to remain anonymous to this day. On that note, we will take a look at some of the possible candidates who could become Satoshi Nakamoto.
Do you think Vitalik Buterin was the first to conceptualize a smart contract? If you think about it, even cryptocurrencies weren’t the first to be mentioned after the 2008 crash. They still exist; albeit with a different name. Hence, the concept of smart contracts was defined by Nick Szabo in 1994. He had proposed the idea that smart contracts would be the building blocks of the digital future and Vitalik Buterin had just built it. Nick Szabo even built Bit Gold, which was the precursor to Bitcoin; although it did not gain mainstream adoption, the concept is similar to the Bitcoin standard. Thus making Nick Szabo the top choice to become the most popular Satoshi Nakamoto.
When Satoshi Nakamoto created the blockchain and mined the first block, the Genesis block, the mined Bitcoins were transferred to Hal Finney. For example, why would someone send mined Bitcoins to random strangers. As Steve Jobs said, “You can come to a conclusion by connecting the dots and that too by going backwards.” Just like the origin of Bitcoin. That said, the next possible Bitcoin creator is undoubtedly Hal Finney. The best part, he died in 2014 and the BTC has not been transferred from Satoshi’s wallet. Not even a fraction!
Some credits from Hal Finney: He is the developer of the Pretty Good Privacy encryption software which has been used extensively to secure e-mail to this day.
Ever wonder who is the wrinkled face whenever we talk about the creators of Bitcoin. It was Dorain Nakamoto, a Japanese-American engineer and physicist. As shocking as the public may be, he rightfully rejects the claim and even says that he barely speaks fluent English. And most of his interviews are misquoted because of this unproficient English wit. He has kept himself private since the interview.
Craigh Wright, although a computer scientist and an entrepreneur based in Australia claims he is the creator of Bitcoin. But most of his claims have been rejected by society and he is often labeled as a fraud. But Wright had some big claims to his name where he involved himself in lawsuits and legal battles. His name was highlighted when he appeared in a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against the estate of Dave Kleiman, a computer scientist and cybersecurity expert who was also considered a potential candidate for Nakamoto’s identity.
Adam’s strong credible accomplishments in the form of Hash Cash, a PoW system that prevents spam and DD-oS make him a top choice for the title. He has advocated for cryptography and he is also an active member of Cypher Punks, a group rumored to be Satoshi Nakamoto’s league. Even though Adam vehemently denied the claims, he still a
a recognizable name when it comes to distributed systems.
Dai created the concept of b-Money long before Bitcoin appeared. It follows the same system as Bitcoin which follows a decentralized electronic cash system. Hence most people believe that Wei Dai might be the Nakamoto we are all looking for. But he also denied the claim.
Vili Lehdonvirta has been credited with his research on digital currencies and markets which made him an important choice in discovering who Satoshi Nakamoto really was. But these claims have not been kindly received from Vili to date.
These are some of the top picks when it comes to unmasking who Satoshi Nakamoto is. What do you think? Who could be one from the list or do you have a better suggestion, please comment below.
